HBI by UL Solutions is a market-leading Health, Safety and Compliance company.
Our team is key to our success and is built from many years of industry experience and a high level of technical qualifications.
I graduated from Reading University with a BSc and MSc in Soil Science. Following a year of work in the construction industry; I joined Healthy Buildings International Limited by UL Solutions (HBI) in 1996 as a building consultant. Since then I have gained considerable practical experience in Asbestos, Legionella and Air Quality Consultancy and am currently the Commercial Director, overseeing our Sales, Marketing and Business Development activities.
My philosophy towards building compliance is to ensure that we develop long-term relationships with customers that benefit all parties. We are really proud of the personal approach to business we can therefore offer, giving clients a high quality but friendly service.
Away from work I am a dedicated Carp Fisherman, often fishing in Europe and in 2010 qualified for the British Carp Championship finals. I also enjoy football and am an FA licensed coach at a local boys team.
I graduated from University with a BSc in Resources and the Environment and afterwards spent six months in America working as a Counsellor with Camp America then travelling.
I joined HBI by UL Solutions in 1995 as a surveyor, developing my belief in working with clients to ensure a healthy working environment. I achieved an MSc in 1998 in Intelligent Buildings a new course running at Reading University. Since joining HBI by UL Solutions I have worked in all departments giving me a unique appreciation of the company. I was appointed as a Director in 2013.
Outside work I am actively involved in Girlguiding UK as a leader running a unit for girls and also mentoring adult leaders who are working towards their own leadership and indoor/ outdoor residential qualifications.
I enjoy the outdoors, camping, gardening, and helping on the company allotment. When not out of doors, I don’t like being cold and wet, I make bobbin lace, tapestry and enjoy a good book with a cup of hot chocolate.
Having gained valuable work experience at the Institute of Hydrology and Invesco Perpetual Investment Bank; I graduated from The University of Nottingham with a BEng in Environmental Engineering and Resource Management in 1999. Shortly after I joined the then relatively small team at HBI by UL Solutions as a trainee Environmental Consultant.
I quickly progressed along with our evolving young team and have vast experience and expertise in the subjects of Legionella, Asbestos, Air Quality, Noise and Heath & Safety. I have spent a number of years responsible for the management and delivery of our services in both the North and South of the UK. I now hold the position of Operations Director and consider it my responsibility to deliver our service to the highest quality, provided by a dedicated consultancy team.
I developed the quality procedure that enabled HBI by UL Solutions to successfully achieve UKAS accreditation for Asbestos in England and Ireland in 2006 and have since project managed the update of quality procedure so that HBI by UL Solutions successfully became first company worldwide to achieve UKAS accreditation for Legionella Risk Assessment in 2010.
In my spare time I now manage the football team for which I have played for the last 14 years. I also enjoy snowboarding.
Technical Services Director
I joined HBI by UL Solutions in August 2004 as a Trainee Environmental Consultant after graduating from the University of Reading with a BSc in Rural Resource Management and MSc in Research (into Human Geography). Since then I have gained considerable experience in Fire, Asbestos, Legionella and Air Quality consultancy.
As the current Technical Services Director I manage our consultancy services across the UK and Europe, undertaking a range of compliance surveys. I am also an experienced consultant myself, working for a number of our flagship clients.
Outside of work, I am a keen golfer, enjoy watching Leeds United and enjoy socialising with friends.
I joined HBI by UL Solutions in August 2005 as a Trainee Environmental Consultant after completing my A-Levels in my hometown of Nottingham. I continued my role within the Operations department for a further 8 years working gaining considerable experience in Fire, Asbestos, Legionella and Air Quality consultancy.
In 2013 an exciting opportunity arose within HBI by UL Solutions to join the Commercial Team as a Business Development Manager. From this role I progressed to Sales Manager to where I find myself today as Commercial Director. As Commercial Director it is my responsibility to ensure as a team we are not only meeting but exceeding client expectations delivering quality Health and Safety Compliance Solutions. In addition to this I work alongside a team of highly skilled and successful Business Development Managers, who collectively we assist new and existing clients with their compliance needs.
Outside of work, I am a keen golfer, enjoy watching and participating in sports as well as being a family man with 2 small children to keep me busy!
Since graduating in Mechanical Engineering way back in the 1980’s, the focus of my career has been on making buildings work better for people. This started during my time at Building Services Research and Information Association, where I lead research projects and authored publications, related to improving control, comfort and air quality in buildings and has continued through my career at HBI by UL Solutions.
As the HBI by UL Solutions technical lead in Indoor Air Quality, Fire Risk Assessment and Disabled Access, I undertake the most complex, in-depth and challenging surveys, mentor new staff and also act as technical advisor to selected clients. Other responsibilities include reviewing HBI by UL Solutions internal procedures and technical outputs to ensure they remain focussed on client needs and up to date and also exploring new opportunities.
Outside work my main interest is football and I am a lifelong Wimbledon fan.

Since joining I have gained experience in Air Quality, Legionella and Pseudomonas Aeruginosa consultancy. My role also involves assisting with scheduling and managing the operations for the northern team.

South West Region Operations Manager
I was recruited by HBI by UL Solutions in 2002, shortly after graduating from the University of Reading with a BSc in Environmental Science of the Earth and Atmosphere.
Initially starting out as a Trainee Consultant I progressed to become Operations Manager for the Reading Office for a few years before moving to Devon (where I grew up). I’m now Operations Manager for the South West of England. Moving to the Southwest has given me the opportunity to put my considerable practical experience of building compliance surveys and company operations into growing our presence in this region- further improving HBI by UL Solutions excellent geographical coverage in the UK.
Outside work my relocation has enabled me to further enjoy my interests in surfing, the countryside and bush-craft.
