I graduated from Reading University with a BSc and MSc in Soil Science. Following a year of work in the construction industry; I joined Healthy Buildings International Limited (HBI) in 1996 as a building consultant. Since then I have gained a wealth of practical experience in building compliance. I have acted as Operations Manager and Commercial Director for the company, before taking the role of Managing Director in 2016.
My philosophy towards building compliance is to ensure that we develop long-term relationships with customers that benefit all parties. We are really proud of the personal approach to business we can therefore offer, giving clients a high quality but friendly service.
Away from work I enjoy fishing and often travel to new countries to catch all types of fish. I am also heavily involved in grass roots football, running a youth team and also sitting on the committee of one of the largest amateur clubs in Hampshire.
Having gained valuable work experience at the Institute of Hydrology and Invesco Perpetual Investment Bank; I graduated from The University of Nottingham with a BEng in Environmental Engineering and Resource Management in 1999. Shortly after I joined the then relatively small team at HBI as a trainee Environmental Consultant.
I quickly progressed along with our evolving young team and have vast experience and expertise in the subjects of Legionella, Asbestos, Air Quality, Noise and Heath & Safety. I have spent a number of years responsible for the management and delivery of our services in both the North and South of the UK. I now hold the position of Operations Director and consider it my responsibility to deliver our service to the highest quality, provided by a dedicated consultancy team.
I developed the quality procedure that enabled HBI to successfully achieve UKAS accreditation for Asbestos in England and Ireland in 2006 and have since project managed the update of quality procedure so that HBI successfully became first company worldwide to achieve UKAS accreditation for Legionella Risk Assessment in 2010.
In my spare time I now manage the football team for which I have played for the last 14 years. I also enjoy snowboarding.
I graduated from University with a BSc in Resources and the Environment and afterwards spent six months in America working as a Counsellor with Camp America then travelling.
I joined HBI in 1995 as a surveyor, developing my belief in working with clients to ensure a healthy working environment. I achieved an MSc in 1998 in Intelligent Buildings a new course running at Reading University. Since joining HBI I have worked in all departments giving me a unique appreciation of the company. I was appointed as a Director in 2013.
Outside work I am actively involved in Girlguiding UK as a leader running a unit for girls and also mentoring adult leaders who are working towards their own leadership and indoor/ outdoor residential qualifications.
I enjoy the outdoors, camping, gardening, and helping on the company allotment. When not out of doors, I don’t like being cold and wet, I make bobbin lace, tapestry and enjoy a good book with a cup of hot chocolate.
I graduated from Nottingham Trent Polytechnic with a Diploma in Building and subsequently qualified as a Chartered Building Engineer. Having worked throughout the UK, latterly on large concrete frame structures, I co-founded Healthy Buildings International Limited (HBI) in 1992 with Dave Handley.
As Technical Director and Quality Manager I have jointly developed the standard operating procedures and quality systems that the company now follow. I have also established a specialist Ventilation in Healthcare Division and regularly present at Healthcare Ventilation Training Seminars.
Outside of work I play tennis, participate in photography groups and enjoy travelling.
Operations Manager Southwest
I was recruited by HBI in 2002, shortly after graduating from the University of Reading with a BSc in Environmental Science of the Earth and Atmosphere.
Initially starting out as a Trainee Consultant I progressed to become Operations Manager for the Reading Office for a few years before moving to Devon (where I grew up). I’m now Operations Manager for the South West of England.
Moving to the Southwest has given me the opportunity to put my considerable practical experience of building compliance surveys and company operations into growing our presence in this region- further improving HBI’s excellent geographical coverage in the UK.
Outside work my relocation has enabled me to further enjoy my interests in surfing, the countryside and bush-craft (as much as family life with two under 3-year-old boys permits!).
Operations Manager South
I joined HBI in August 2004 as a Trainee Environmental Consultant after graduating from the University of Reading with a BSc in Rural Resource Management and MSc in Research (into Human Geography). Since then I have gained considerable experience in Fire, Asbestos, Legionella and Air Quality consultancy.
As the current Southern Operations Manager I manage a team of 8 consultants, undertake a range of surveys and help to maintain client accounts.
Outside of work, I am a keen golfer, enjoy watching Leeds United and enjoy socialising with friends.
Training & Marketing Manager
I joined HBI in 2004 and before this was the Manager of a Surf and Snow Sports Retail shop in Reading as well as working for Thames Water on their Clean Water Networking Team. I have a BSc in Environmental Science from Reading University.
My role at HBI includes delivering compliance training courses to our customers in the areas of Asbestos and Legionella Awareness. I also provide Technical Support and Training to clients using our online compliance system www.RecordsForBuildings.com and am an involved in Marketing and Business Development Strategy.
Outside work I enjoy surfing, snowboarding & gardening. I play guitar in a band and help maintain an allotment behind our office HQ.
