On November 12th 2009 over 60 organisations attended Northern Ireland’s first Legionella Conference at Galgorm Resort and Spa near Ballymena.
The conference, supported by the Health and Safety Executive and the Health Promotions Agency, was sold out weeks ahead, with senior policy makers, Environmental and Technical Managers and all those with responsibility for health and safety within their organisations booking their place to ensure that they keep ahead of the legislation.
Adrian Byrne, conference chair and Managing Director of the main sponsor Healthy Buildings International (Ireland) Ltd, was delighted by the response. He said “Although outbreaks of Legionnaires disease are rare in Northern Ireland, the expert speakers demonstrated that every building manager has a duty of care responsibility in the control of Legionella. We know that Northern Ireland is a long way behind England in the approach towards the control of this deadly bacteria, and we are encouraged that 60 organisations ensured that their responsible people were at the conference to learn about the new approaches outlined by some of the experts.”
