Asbestos related diseases are currently killing an estimated 3,000 people each year in the UK. This figure is continuing to rise and there is no cure for such diseases.
Regulation 4 of the Control of Asbestos at Work Regulations 2002 (CAW) places a legal duty on those arties responsible for maintaining and repairing the premises, (owners, managing agents, employers, self-employed), to manage the risk from asbestos. A key strategy for managing the risk is to conduct a survey to determine the location of materials likely to contain asbestos and to assess their condition. There are 3 types of asbestos survey recommended by MDHS 100. The type of survey used is determined by individual circumstances. Sometime in larger buildings a mixture of the 3 surveys are implemented.
HBI can advise on the type of survey required for each property. Our competent surveyors and UKAS accreditation means that all reports will meet stringent quality standards in a format that follows best practice. The information from the surveys can then be used to make a priority assessment and develop a management strategy for the property or organisation.
The survey can be presented in paper format or within our web-based health and safety record depository www.RecordsForBuildings.com. This system is often used to create a properties asbestos register.
